Incidente a New York, traghetto contro molo

NEW YORK - Sale il bilancio dell'incidente avvenuto al Pier 11 di Lower Manhattan, a New York, dove un traghetto di pendolari si è schiantato contro il molo. Secondo un bilancio ancora provvisorio della polizia, i feriti sarebbero tra 30 e 50, di cui uno grave, trasportato in ospedale. Il traghetto ha un grande buco sulla prua provocato dall'impatto Il traghetto è della compagnia Sea Streak Ferry che fornisce collega ogni giorno con diverse corse Lower Manhattan e New Jersey. Al momento dell'incidente, avvenuto intorno alle 8,45 del mattino, a bordo c'erano circa 300 passeggeri, la grandissima parte pendolari. Molti dei feriti, raccontano i testimoni, sono stati letteralmente sbalzati dai sedili a causa dell'urto violento.

La maggior parte delle persone ferite sono pendolari che lavorano nel Financial District. Il Pier 11/Wall Street, infatti, si trova sull'East River proprio a due passi dal New York Stock Exchange. Il terminal ha cinque approdi ognuno con due ormeggi. La compagnia a cui appartiene il ferry coinvolto nell'incidente, la Sea Streak, è basata in New Jersey. La maggior parte delle corse approdano al terminal di Battery Park, sull'Hudson River, sulla parte ovest di Lower Manhattan, per poi proseguire verso il Pier 11 dove trasporta centinaia di pendolari che lavorano nel Distretto Finanziario

LONDRA - Trentuno anni fa oggi nasceva Kate Middleton, a pochi chilometri da Londra, nel Berkshire. Nessuno avrebbe immaginato allora che 31 primavere dopo questo giorno sarebbe stato celebrato issando la bandiera britannica sugli edifici del Paese. Kate ha scelto di festeggiarlo in privato, ha comunicato St. James's Palace, senza fornire ulteriori dettagli. Trapela però che la duchessa di Cambridge festeggerà con William nella casa di Anglesey, nel nord del Galles, presa in affitto dopo le nozze per la sua vicinanza con la base della Raf dove William presta servizio.

Con tutta probabilità la coppia passerà una serata romantica, magari con cena a lume di candela, con un menù necessariamente pensato attorno alle esigenze della futura mamma, che all'inizio della gravidanza ha anche sofferto di una forma acuta di nausee per la quale ha passato alcuni giorni in ospedale. Kate sembra essersi ripresa del tutto, e il fatto che possa rimanere oggi in Galles lo conferma. Dopo essere stata dimessa dall'ospedale, infatti, i medici le avevano ordinato assoluto riposo a Kensington Palace, a Londra. Anche per rimanere più vicina alla squadra di professionisti che si occupano del suo stato di salute.

Queen issues formal decree to guarantee princess title if Duchess of Cambridge has a girl

The Queen has issued a formal decree to grant the title of prince or princess to all of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's children

Using Letters Patent, a method by which the sovereign can give orders without the involvement of Parliament, the Queen decided that from now on "all the children of the eldest son of the Prince of Wales" should be given the title of Royal Highness "with the titular dignity of Prince or Princess prefixed to their Christian names".

Until now, only the eldest son of the eldest son of the Prince of Wales was entitled to the honour, following a decree made by George V in 1917, meaning that if the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have a daughter later this year she would have been known as "Lady".

But the Queen's formal ruling, officially made on December 31 but only now made public, means that not only the eldest child but all children of the Duke and Duchess will be princes and princesses.

A formal announcement in the London Gazette reads: "The Queen has been pleased by Letters Patent under the Great Seal of the Realm dated 31 December 2012 to declare that all the children of the eldest son of the Prince of Wales should have and enjoy the style, title and attribute of Royal Highness with the titular dignity of Prince or Princess prefixed to their Christian names or with such other titles of honour."

The Government has already begun the process of altering the laws of succession to ensure that the Duke and Duchess's first child will become monarch, removing the ancient rule of male primogeniture which gave precedence to boys.
